About Kiel Plant Center

The Kiel region harbours a wealth of plant research. Plant scientists are based at institutes in the faculties of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, and Agricultural and Nutritional Sciences at the University of Kiel, as well as Geomar - Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research and the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology in Plön.

Established in 2017 within the Kiel Life Science (KLS) research area, the Kiel Plant Centre (KPC) aims to encourage and foster more interdisciplinary communication and interaction between plant scientists based in and around Kiel.

KPC facilitates the exchange of ideas outside the usual spheres of interactions via regular networking events, seminars and conferences, and encourages the establishment of new collaborative research initiatives. We believe bringing different perspectives, insights and expertise together adds value to the research done within the KPC.

Research within the KPC covers different fields of plant research, including molecular plant biology, plant ecology, biotechnology, and crop production. A general focus of plant research in Kiel is plant health and interactions of plants with their environment.

The KPC aims to:
    Foster and promote interdisciplinary collaborations across the centre and beyond
    Increase the visibility of plant research in Kiel and Schleswig Holstein
    Attract talented early career scientists to Kiel
    Foster and empower the next generation plant scientists
